Anti-gas stainer
Description ATM tutor EXPG System
TheLEM ATM TUTOR EXPG system has been created to defend against the continual evolution of assaults against ATMs by various mechanical or thermal means, forcible removal or explosive gas.The product is engineered to incorporate both the section which protects the banknote staining mechanism against tampering and removal and the section which neutralizes assaults with explosive gas in a single system.
During design and construction, particular attention was paid to the mechanism for preventing false alarms. The self-diagnosing system ensures correct function at all times.
Particular attention has been paid to the following aspects:
• " Security
All the active components are enclosed in a box constructed entirely in drill-proof magnesium steel . which is installed under the cash drawer directly on the dispenser trolley. This solution resolves important security problems.
- The propellant canister cannot be neutralized by drilling through the box - it is too far from the walls of the safe and as the box is drill-proof, the drill bit cannot get a grip.
- The box cannot be drilled through with an oxy-acetylene torch as the flame cannot reach the box, and in any case it would be detected immediately by the heat and light sensors, so triggering the system.
- The box can be drilled through by a mini thermic lance, but the flame would be detected by the heat and light sensors as soon as it passed the walls of the safe, triggering the system. Even if the attack is carried out by super experts with the thermic lance, the time needed to neutralize the canister inside the box is decidedly more than the speed of the sensors.
- Of course the object would be defeated if the equipment box was not drill-proof and above all, if it was mounted close to the wall
of the safe - in that case, even if the box were sensorized, the canister of propellant could be punctured and lose pressure before the dye could be forced into the drawers and stain the banknotes.
• " Installation/Maintenance
The equipment box is built in under the cashdispenser as if it were an additional drawer, making for quick and easy disassembly and reassembly for maintenance.
Advantages:
• Automatic coupling of the spray coil on insertion of the drawers to make the operation automatic and completely clear to the operator.
• No visible plastic tube, only a thick steel tube to prevent cutting through a small hole with a cutting hook, also with protected walls.
• Staining dye travels very short distance
System mounted on ATM Diebold
System mounted on ATM NCROne box containing:
Canister cof anti-gas mix or inert gas (depending on model) with pressure reading (not technically possible on anti-gas system).
Anti-explosive version: - 1 x 2.7 liter canister of liquid carbon dioxide
(each canister comes with a test certificate) complete with low absorption electro-valve,
ensures prevention of 3 attempts to explode.
Inking only version: 1 x 3 liter canister of 10 - 11 atmosphere gas and 1.2 liters of dye,
complete with opening valve with pyrotechnic mechanism and gauge.
ePressure is kept constant because liquid prevents gas from escaping. Should any micro-leaks from the valve occur, they would immediately be signaled by the coloured dye.
• Stainless steel tank (anti-explosive version) containing dye - 0.6 liters per drawer. The dye is a NON-TOX high penetration type. Safety specification and declaration by the Saronno Local Health Authority available.
• One hermetic rechargeable battery ensuring 72 hours function in the event of a power shortage.
• Two inclination sensors to verify the correct position of the ATM. They set off the dyer if inclination of the ATM exceeds 15 degrees or in the case of tilting due to attempted forced removal.
• " One programmable microprocessor-managed electronic circuit board
Installed on the electronic circuit board:
- An electronic temperature sensor for instant detection of sudden changes in the "delta" temperature whether up (hot) or down (freezing). The mechanism intervenes in either of these conditions.
- Two heat sensors set at 65/70 degrees with an approx. 2 second intervention time.
- Two thermal radiation sensors - New - to immediately detect assaults with oxy-acetylene torches, mini lances or electric drills. The sensors activate as soon as the external plate of the ATM is perforated in any point.
- Wide spectrum, high sensitivity explosive gas sensor with digital control algorithm. Automatic compensation for small impurities and variations in the atmosphere. Prevents false alarms.
- Special methane gas sensor.
- RS 232 serial interface for programming and remote control.
- Two auxiliary entrances for "immediate alarm" coming from the external sensors.
- 4 open/close contact relays for local and remote alarms (sirens, flashing lights, sequence switch, silent alarm etc) One relay signals failures, one signals activation of the mechanism, one switches off the ATM and a fourth locks the ATM opening when the banknote stainer is active.
- Contact to block opening. Door cannot be opened when the mechanism is active, interfaceable with LEM or other brand electronic locks.
• Magnetic tamper sensor with three reeds to detect opening.
• Heat sensor mounted inside the door near lock.
• Power supply with incorporated ATM switch-ff system in the event of activation of the note stainer.
• Lock sensors to verify locks status.
• Control consol to situate outside the ATM, with 4 warning LEDs indicating equipment status and sensor for SecurKey.

| green | on: | power present | off: | no power |
| red | on | mechanism active do not open | off | mechanism off can be opened |
| yellow | on | alarm, buzzer | off | no alarm |
| red | on | battery charged | off | battery discharged or faulty |
Sensor for "Secur Key" for authorized access
The"Secur Key" electronic key is used for smart deactivation of the mechanism. ((indicated by the relevant led))
After deactivation, the mechanism remains active for a programmable period of time (t(time lapse between placing the key on the sensor and being able to open the door))
Use of the univocal electronic key leaves a verifiable record of deactivation.
Loss of the key does not cause problems since it can be cancelled.
Reactivation of the system after deactivation is automatic, either after the time delay or reclosing of the door. ((ask LEM for further information)
Each system comes with a label and a decalcomania signaling its the presence on the ATM.
Optional:
• Electronic lock Hal 600 (ICIM certified) with antitheft/anti-robbery functions to interface with the Tutor system. In this case false alarms caused by "operator error" are COMPLETELY prevented.(Technical specification on request)
• Electronic lock Duo 4000 (ICIM certified) –
ask LEM for technical specification
Banknote stainer features
The main management parameters are:
- Timing. Programmable times when the stainer is active or inactive.
- Daily deactivation: it is possible to choose days when the stainer cannot be deactivated (e.g. Saturday and Sunday)
- Clock/calendar with automatic change to daylight saving time
- Automatic recognition of public holidays with 24hr activation of system.
- Cyclic record of 500 events - allarms, opening of door, activation/deacvtivation etc. With day, date, hour, minutes and seconds.
- uthorized access with "Secur Key" means the ATM can be opened: during the permitted time periods with normal opening of the lock; in non-permitted periods with the "Secur Key" in addition to normal opening. If the door is opened in a not-permitted period even with the correct key and combination, the system will activate. This function is very important for night protection and for remote installations. Counterfeit keys and combinations used to open the door during non-permitted times will also activate the system.
Two different configurations can be installed:
TUTOR: “EX-MC/G” Anti-explosive + Banknote staining functions - Prevents explosion of ATM in the event of attack with gas and stains banknotes at the same time.
TUTOR: “MC/G FBanknote staining with gas sensor - Does not prevent explosion of the ATM but stains the banknotes in the event of an attack with gas.
TUTOR ATM EXPG has been tested at the CESI Institute, Milan.
2006/7 Improvements to the "Tutor" staining/anti-gas system
Premise:Ithe "tutorbancomat" system for the protection of ATMs and safes against attacks aimed at forcing open with explosive gas is based on the principle of lowering the percentage of oxygen in the safe by introducing carbon dioxide. If the percentage of oxygen is less than 12%, no explosion will occur regardless of the quantity of type of gas introduced.
In recent times, however, criminals who normally used only acetylene or propane gas have refined their tactics.
In some recent cases it has been noted that attacks have been made using acetylene gas and oxygen together (canisters for oxyacetylene torches) or also with methane gas.
This new technique means that the effectiveness of the protection provided by the "Tutorbancomat" against explosion is seriously reduced.
Improvements and modifications
These new technologies have been tested and fine-tuned to protect against the new type of attack with gas and oxygen:- A new electronic circuit board has been designed for optimal management of the "Tutor" system..
The new system to protect against gas attacks functions as follows:
When the gas sensor gives the alarm, carbon dioxide is immediately introduced for a pre-set length of time depending on the volume of the safe, to saturate the interior and lower the level of oxygen. Times for introduction of carbon monoxide have been optimized.
- To increase effectiveness over time, a "special" function has been added to the open/close relay of the electro-valve which introduces carbon dioxide into the safe.
- For more effective dissuasion, a 120 decibel alarm compatible with the electronic circuit board can be integrated which activates as soon as the gas alarm goes off or if the cash dispenser shutter is forced or perforated. The latter has to be sensorized.
- Airbags can be installed inside ATMs which have a big enough space inside the safe to diminish the volume and considerably increase the neutralizing effect of the carbon dioxide.
- The circuit board has been further integrated with sensors with the following functions, equivalent to the "seismic/selective" sensors normally installed on ATMs:
• Microphone to detect noises from mechanical attacks
• Accelerometer to detect attacks with mechanical means, thermic lance or shock from forced removal.
• Magnetic sensor to control opening of door
This integration eliminates the need to install "seismic/selective" and door sensors.
Attacks on the ATM and the function of the "Tutor" can be monitored with a single connection to the central alarm, resulting in a considerable saving. - E’ A further gas sensor has been added to detect methane.
The system described above is "open" so it can be up-dated with future improvements.
